Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a cake pan with butter and wheat flour and set aside.
  2. Soak the dates in the orange juice and set aside, about 10 minutes. Separate orange juice and the dates once 10 minutes are over.
  3. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add orange zest and mix then set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the oil/melted butter and honey/sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and mix.
  6. Alternately, add the flour mixture and orange juice to the egg mixture and beat until just combined.
  7. Stir in the dates and mix until evenly incorporated into the batter.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan and placing it on a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Serve the cake as is or dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
