Pilau is also referred to as pilaf rice in US. It comprises a mixture of rice and caramerized meat with spices cooked in one pot. The spices in pilau gives it a strong fragrant and delicious taste. The meat used can either be beef, mutton or chicken though the most preferred meat is beef. It can also be cooked with potatoes or other vegetables.

- 1 Electric Pressure Cooker
Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice washed
- ½ kg Beef cubed
- 4 tomatoes diced
- 1 chopped onion large size
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 piece ginger small size
- 3 cups hot water/beef stock Use the same cup you used to measure the rice. Water/stock to rice ratio should be 1½ cups of water:1 cup of rice
- 1 tsp powdered Dhana Jeera powdered mixture of cumin seeds and coriander
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp powdered paprika
- 1 tsp black pepper freshly ground
- 1 tsp turmeric dry powder or freshly minced
- 1 tsp chilli powder or chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp salt
- chopped parsley
- cooking oil
Instructions
Step 1:
- Connect the pressure cooker to the power source and power it on
- Use the sauté function on the cooker to set the timer; add the cooking oil and sauté the onions; the sauté function gives you 20 minutes to cook but you can always add more minutes once the given time is over.
- Add the cubed beef to the onions and salt then cook for 15 minutes before adding the tomatoes.
- Add tomatoes then the garlic and ginger and then the rest of the spices and cook for 4 minutes until the tomatoes are well cooked.
- Add water or stock then the rice and stir then cover with the pressure cooker lid
Step 2:
- Use the rice function on the pressure cooker to set the timer for the rice; make sure you cook on maximum depending on the brand of your cooker.
- Once the timer gets to zero, release the pressure, open the lid and add the chopped parsley then let it rest for 2 minutes before serving.
- Serve with your preferred vegetables or salad.
