Basic Butter Cake: A Beginner Recipe
These are cakes that are baked using creamed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. Any cake recipe that begins with "cream butter and sugar together" is a butter cake. This process of creaming butter and sugar incorporate air into the batter. This gives this cake its characteristics fluffiness and moistness.

Ingredients
- 250 g butter
- 1 cup caster sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla essence
- 3 eggs
- 2½ cups self-rising flour
- ⅔ cup milk
- icing sugar optional
Instructions
Step 1: preparations
- Preheat oven to 180℃
- Grease and line cake pan with parchment paper
Step 2: Mixing ingredients
- Using an electric mixer, cream butter, caster sugar and vanilla in a bowl on a medium high speed until light and fluffy
- Add eggs, one at a time beating to combine with each addition.
- Add half the flour and stir to combine
- Add half milk and stir to combine
- Repeat with the remaining flour and milk stirring to combine
Step 3:Baking
- Pour mixture into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 1 hour or until a skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean,
Step 4: Cool
- Let it stand in the pan for 10 minutes
- Turn out onto a wire rack to cool further
Step 5: Serve
- Dust with icing sugar or frost with your favorite frosting and serve
