A loaf of bread crafted from a blend of oats and whole wheat flour is a nourishing delight. This Oatmeal bread is made using rolled oats, whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour. Sweetened with honey, the bread is tasty and chewy at the same time.
Add oats and butter to a mixing bowl. Heat the milk and pour on top of oat mixture. Stir to combine and set aside for about 1- 1.5 hours.
To the oat mixture, add honey, warm water, instant yeast and stir well to combine.
Add the whole wheat flour into the mixture. Mix until combined.
Add the all-purpose flour, a little at a time as you knead, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Knead for about 5-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Transfer dough to a greased bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel or cling film. Set aside to allow it rise until double in size; about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough to remove excess air. Shape into a loaf and place in a lightly greased loaf pan.
Cover loosely with a greased wrap. Let it rise in a warm place until risen about 1 inch over the loaf pan, about 30-45 minutes.
Gently remove the wrap and carefully brush some egg wash on top. Sprinkle a handful of dry oats on top before baking.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 30 – 40 minutes. The loaf is done when you tap lightly on the top and it produces hollow sound.
Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out of pan and cool completely before slicing.

Notes
Only add enough flour to make a dough that is soft, and not overly sticky. Ensure that you do not use too much flour.
